The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Liam Ruck 22nd overall in the 2026 NHL Draft to add some more talent to the organization.
Ruck is coming off a dominant season in the WHL with Medicine Hat, as he recorded 45 goals and 59 assists for 104 points in 68 games, finishing second in the WHL in scoring. Not only does he have offensive upside, but Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas believes there’s more to his game which makes him special.
“It's not just the talent,” Dubas said on Friday. “It’s the talent plus the enthusiasm and the intelligence and how much he loves playing and contributing to a contending team and playing well in the playoffs for them. So, it was a number of different things that just made him what we felt was a great fit as a Pittsburgh Penguin.”
Ruck, meanwhile, said he hopes to improve his shot and skating, as he will likely return to Medicine Hat before their college commitment to North Dakota for the 2027-28 season.
“It's a bright future in Pittsburgh,” Ruck said. “Obviously, a lot of great history there, and seeing that they're coming up again with a bunch of young guys, it's special to join that, and I'm super excited about it.”
The Penguins selected Liam’s twin brother, Markus, in the second round.
