This is the live blog for Shara “Bullet” Magomedov vs. Michel Pereira, the middleweight co-main event for Saturday’s UFC Baku card at National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Bullet (16-1) recently rebounded from his first loss with a decision win over Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC Abu Dhabi, but it’s been almost a year since the Russian striking specialist has stepped into the octagon. He seeks his sixth UFC win in seven outings for the promotion with the chance to lock a number in next to his name under the revised AI-driven UFC rankings.

Visit sport-newz.biz for more information.

His opponent, Pereira (32-14, 2 NC) is also aiming to put together his first win streak since 2024. The near-50-fight veteran suffered through a rough three-fight losing stretch, including two knockout losses, before earning a split decision win over Zachary Reese this past February to stop his skid. “Demolidor” heads into Saturday’s contest as a major underdog, but his unpredictable style has tripped up challenging opponents in the past.

The fighters had to be pulled apart after a physical faceoff Friday and now get to settle their beef in the cage.

Check out the Shara Bullet vs. Michel Pereira live blog below.

Preamble

Is Shara Bullet a true contender? Feels like he’s being given a favorable matchup with the weathered Pereira, but Pereira might still have a few tricks up his sleeve. A finish for Bullet would go a long way towards reigniting his hype.

Always tell me the odds

Shara Magomedov a heavy favorite at -390, per FanDuel. Pereira the underdog at +310.

Round 1

Pereira looking light on his feet as Bullet works to cut off the cage. Jab scores for Pereira. Bullet answers with a sharp inside leg kick. Right hand down the middle puts Bullet on his back, not sure if that was a knockdown or if Bullet was just off-balance. Pereira lands a few good follow-up shots, but Bullet seems to have recovered. Pereira navigates past Bullet’s legs, it looks like he wants to grapple.

According to commentary, that was scored a knockdown, so Bullet has a lot of work to do here. Referee Herb Dean has to step in and admonish Bullet for grabbing Pereira’s hair. No point taken. Pereira working from inside guard. Not much heavy getting through but this has been one-way traffic for Pereira in this round. He’s not letting Bullet breathe. Good patience shown by Bullet though as he sweeps with about 30 seconds left in the round. Pereira keeping a tight guard as time ticks away.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Pereira.

Round 2

Pereira is the one moving back, but he might be leading the dance. Bullet hesitant to throw anything. He sneaks in a nice high kick. Low kicks also scoring for Bullet. Not much volume for Pereira either, he might be hunting for another precise, knockdown shot. Push kick by Bullet lands.

Bullet lands a glancing counter left. Pereira flicks out a few kicks, but he’s struggling in this round. They trade straight punches. Bullet lands a few strikes as Pereira moves in. There has been almost no output from Pereira in this round. Bullet ties it up.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Bullet. Overall, 19-19.

Round 3

Anyone’s fight here. Bullet landing a few light kicks to score. Pereira jabs the body. Glorified staring contest with three minutes to go.

Bullet with a tricky overhand right. Pereira telegraphs a double leg and Bullet easily stuffs it. A finger to Pereira’s eye brings this one to a pause. A couple of minutes break and they’re back on. Pereira lands a couple of outside leg kicks. Right hand for Pereira. He briefly pushes the action. Nice 1-2 by Bullet. Pereira shoots in just as Bullet throws a flying knee, but somehow doesn’t get a takedown, so they just end up mashed against the fence. Bullet lands a body kick with time running low and I think he wins this one just because Pereira didn’t do anything. Plus the unpenalized fouls.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Bullet. Overall, 29-28 Bullet.

Official decision: Shara Bullet def. Michel Pereira via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Post-fight

Bullet, via a Russian translator, calls the fight just a step towards “bigger and better things.”

“I will get this booty. I will get this belt.”

After covering Prime Day for 36 hours over four days, this is the one thing I bought

· The Verge

I’m ready for the Vamplier weekend. | Photo: Antonio G. Di Benedetto / The Verge

We’ve covered so many deals during Prime Day that my head is spinning. But after four days of doing our damndest to try and help folks save money, the thing I’m most hyped for is a simple tool for fixing my most egregious mistakes. I bought a pair of Vampliers.

Visit asg-reflektory.pl for more information.

If you’re unfamiliar, Vampliers are Japanese-made pliers designed for one simple task: removing stripped screws. I don’t even remember when I first heard of them, but I threw one on my wishlist long ago and thought, “I should get one of these eventually.” That time is now: the standard 6.25-inch VT-001 Vampliers is on sale for $25.58 (about $6 off) at Amazon.

Where to Buy:

I recommended a smaller pair of Vampliers in our roundup of Prime Day deals under $25. I knew from people I trust how handy these things are. I even read Chris Person’s excellent ode to his Engineer “Neji-Saurus” pliers, which are the same thing with a green handle. (Engineer makes both sets of pliers; Vampire Tools distributes rebranded Engineer tools in the US.)

Over the years, I’ve abandoned far too many stripped screws in door jambs, junction boxes, and even under my desk. And now I finally have a means to correct my mistakes. Maybe it’s the full pot of coffee I’ve been drinking every day since Tuesday, but I’m done with Prime Day and I’m done with stripped screws.

Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises To 920 As Desperate Search For Survivors Continues

· Free Press Journal

La Guaria (Venezuela): Venezuelans took the search for missing loved ones into their own hands Friday in the aftermath of back-to-back earthquakes, citing the scarcity of government rescuers, as the human toll of the disaster climbed to at least 920 dead and more than 3,300 hurt.

Citizens digging through the rubble of their homes said they have seen few state rescue teams in the areas hit hardest by the devastating 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude quakes that struck late Wednesday, despite authorities projecting an image of a robust government response.

The lack of help compounded families' desperation as the pressure to find buried survivors increased with each passing hour. The South American nation on Friday marked nearly two days since the disaster. Aid agencies consider the first 48 to 72 hours to be a crucial time frame to retrieve people alive, though that period increases if they have access to food and water.

Meanwhile, an broad international aid effort accelerated, with more than two dozen rescue teams from around the globe arriving in Venezuela or due to arrive there soon.

Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises To 589 As Desperate Search For Survivors Continues

“Each person saved is a miracle,” said Jorge Rodríguez, the president of the country's National Assembly. “We are not going to hide absolutely anything about the magnitude of this tragedy." Anxious families wait to see if their relatives survived

Desperate families across northern Venezuela searched in the ruins of buildings for family members and whatever remained of their lives.

Nazareth Jimenez sobbed into the shoulder of a loved one as she watched neighbours try to cut through slabs of concrete with hammers and power tools in a building reduced to a mountain of debris. “My god, how are we going to get them out of there?" she murmured.

She was in the northern state of La Guaira, just north of the capital of Caracas, where some of the worst destruction unfolded. Jimenez was wracked with anxiety as she waited to see if her siblings, nephews, nieces and friends would emerge from the debris alive.

“We're making a call for help to governments of countries across the world,” she said, pleading for machines that would be capable of moving collapsed structures. "There are still people alive in there.” Government forces distributed food and water to survivors in La Guaira as acting President Delcy Rodríguez said her government was “working tirelessly” to mount a full response. She welcomed the arrival of rescuers and humanitarian aid from all over the world. She said La Guaira had been militarized and that more help was on the way, even as residents said it was just a fraction of the aid they needed.

The disaster poses a huge challenge for Rodríguez, the former vice president who took office in January after the capture and removal of then-President Nicolas Maduro by the United States. Venezuela has been facing economic disarray for more than a decade and many people reject the legitimacy of the political movement Rodriguez represents.

The number of dead was expected to climb, with thousands of people reported missing. Venezuelan authorities said Friday afternoon that they had rescued 243 people.

Quakes leave millions of people reeling

The International Organisation for Migration said that up to 6.76 million people in Venezuela could be affected by the quakes, some 2 million of them in Caracas alone. Loyce Pace, the International Red Cross' regional director for the Americas, said “people are still terrified to reenter what were their homes.” Buildings across northern Venezuela were reduced to skeletons, with furniture hanging out of windows and helicopters circling overhead.

Desperation started to sink on Friday as many families still had not found their missing loved ones, had minimal equipment for rescue efforts and continued to sleep on the street.

In Catia La Mar, a community adjacent to the country's main airport, people swarmed a civilian pickup truck that was giving out loaves of bread and water. A soldier intervened to allow the vehicle to leave. People turned the parking lot of a pharmacy into makeshift shelter by setting up tarps, hammocks and tents.

Omar Reyes walked through the remains of what was once his home, calling out the names of wife and children. He received no response.

Around 20 family members have died. Two of his four children are buried in the debris.

“I've been left alone in this life,” he said quietly.

International aid is on the way

Venezuela authorities said Friday that 861 international volunteers from Mexico, the US, El Salvador, Switzerland, Colombia and beyond were working in Venezuela. Many more from other countries were expected in the coming hours and days. The UN said 1,000 emergency responders in 25 search-and-rescue teams from across the globe were on their way.

On the country's main highway, caravans of state forces, emergency personnel, dump trucks and heavy machinery moved in the direction of the tragedy. A civilian pickup truck carrying thin mattresses had its windows marked with “Help from Trujillo.” Venezuela's government said it had diverted emergency services to La Guaira state.

Firefighters from the state of Tachira, which borders Colombia, were among those being deployed in La Guaira.

Firefighting Gen. Antonio Briceno said 45 firefighters and a trained dog, aptly named Rescue, expected to reach affected sites in the coming days.

“We are bringing shovels, picks, hydraulic tools, drinking water, which are needed at the site,” Briceno said.

On Thursday night, the US Treasury moved to waive sanctions until October 23 to allow transactions related to earthquake relief efforts in Venezuela that would otherwise be prohibited.

Government and rescuers face huge challenges

Media reports have shared notable moments of hope, including a young man brought out on a stretcher in the San Bernardino district of Caracas to the applause of onlookers as his tearful mother said, “Leandro, I love you.” Venezuelan TV broadcast video of a girl covered in dust and wrapped in a sweatshirt as she emerged from rubble with the help of rescuers. Caracas metropolitan rescue team head Jose Luis Nunez said she was found in a 10-story building in La Guaira that collapsed and flattened “like a pancake.” “We want to highlight this girl's strength, determination and will to live,” Nunez said.

The US Geological Survey said both earthquakes were centred near Moron on the Caribbean coast, about 170 kilometres west of Caracas. The one-two punch of the quakes, combined with the shallow seismic movements, amplified the destruction, said Marcos Ferreira, a geophysicist and researcher at the Geological Survey of Brazil.
